CONFIRMATION GROUP Please keep in your prayers the Confirmation candidates who are preparing to be confirmed next month. For many years the parish has organised and run a Sacrament of Confirmation preparation course. Part of the course now includes a weekend retreat to St Vincent’s Catholic Youth Centre in Whitstable. This year Fr Michael accompanied the two catechists on this annual event. Sadly they were without Roger Borg-Myatt. He will be sadly missed. The course ran from Friday evening on the 10th May to after lunch on Sunday 12th May. It was a weekend, of prayer, reflection, worship and recreation. It included the Sacrament of Reconciliation on the Saturday evening and finished with Sunday Mass followed by lunch. Roger’s wife, Hazel and their daughter Louisa attended the Mass which was dedicated to Roger. They also stayed for lunch. The children are most enthusiastic about the weekend, so much so, that last years groups will be attending a reunion retreat in a month’s time. This years group have expressed a similar wish to return. Maurice Lewis—Catechist

The name ‘Children’s Liturgy’ is a shortened form of ‘Children’s Liturgy of the Word’ which describes what we do much better than ‘Sunday School’ and again is better than ‘Crèche’. It is not aimed to take children out of the way because they get fidgety in church, nor is it to replace RE lessons. What the children do in ‘Liturgy’ is to celebrate God’s Word, the first part of the Mass, in a way that is parallel to what is happening in church; to introduce them to god’s love for us.

The St Vincent de Paul Society (“SVP”) The St Vincent de Paul Society (“SVP”) is an international Christian voluntary organization dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing direct practical assistance to anyone in need. Active in England & Wales since 1844, today it continues to address social and material need in all its many forms. "Where would we be without the SVP? More than 10,000 volunteers visit and befriend the lonely, give vital material assistance to the destitute, advise the poor on debt, and provide holidays for children who would otherwise have none. Their compassionate action reveals Christ in the prisoners, the homeless and the lonely, and thereby offers inspiration to us all. On behalf of the countless people to whom the SVP has brought hope, I thank you all."

Due to your continued contributions to the
SVP Red Box we were again able to buy approximately 50 small

are always well received. In addition food vouchers are
given to those in need and this includes ‘The Quays’ in
Crown Quay Lane. Biscuits are taken to the Memorial
Hospital. Our other charity work continues through the
year. Thank you for your financial support. The UCM would like to thank the Parents of the first Holy Communicants for their generous donation of £50.00 for our funds. This is greatly appreciated.
