We welcome new members into our parish family! Here is some information for parents as you begin to prepare for the baptism of your child:
1. If you are new to the parish, please introduce yourself to the Parish priest, Fr. Jim after any of the masses. If you are already a parishioner, then you can simply inform him of your intention to have your child baptised.
2. Fr. Jim will ask you to meet with the baptism catechists. Your catechists are Gozie Osuagwu and Jo Kavanagh and will be your main persons to Contact Gozie . You can also speak with either member of the team after the 9.30a.m. masses.
3. Parents will need to attend a baptism preparation course. Because the child is unable to express their faith, the Church invites the parents into a preparation process prior to the Baptism celebration. The sessions are usually held on the 1st Wednesday of every month, in the Presbytery, starting at 7p.m. Both parents are required to attend. We also encourage godparents to attend if they are available.
4. During the course, you will be given instruction regarding the sacrament of baptism and explanation about the rite of baptism during mass. There will also be discussion about the role of parents as the first models of faith.
5. You will be given a Baptism Application form during the class. Please complete the form and return to the catechist as soon as possible, preferably two weeks before the intended baptism date. The information on this form will be used to prepare your child’s Permanent Baptismal record.
6. Infant baptisms are celebrated during the weekend masses, which is a great way to welcome the newest members into our parish family. A suitable date for the baptism can be scheduled with you after the preparation session.
7. Once the dates have been booked and all other arrangements made, the catechist will confirm these arrangements with you.
We look forward to hearing from you and helping you prepare for this very important event!
